If bedtime feels like a nightly battle in your home, you’re not alone. Many parents struggle with frequent wake-ups, bedtime resistance, and early mornings that leave everyone exhausted. The good news is that a few simple sleep habits can make a big difference. With the right routine, environment, and expectations, you can help your child develop healthy sleep patterns—and finally get the full night’s rest your family needs.
Establish a bed time routine.
Kids thrive with structure. A consistent routine can help send a message to their brain and body that bed time is near. This can look like bathtime, reading a book, cuddles, and lights off. Limiting sugar, naps, and screentime before and during the bedtime routine is key!
Create ideal sleep environment

A cool, quiet, dark room can make a big difference. Blackout curtains or sound machines can come in handy here.
Promote healthy daytime habits
Sunlight and physical movement goes a long way! Getting into the sun in the early hours of the day can help set your child’s internal clock. While playing and moving their body can burn energy and promote deeper sleep.
Teach your child how to self soothe
Practice calming strategies when your child is not tired or upset. Hugging a stuffed animal, taking deep breaths, or listening to calming music are great starts! These tools are easier to use at night when a child is familiar with them and is utilizing them during the daytime.
Patience and consistency
Change can take time. Remember, your child is learning a new skill. Remaining calm and consistent teaches them that bedtime is safe and predictable.
With practice and consistency, restful nights for both you and your child are within reach.
